Solar Panel Parking at Clayton Sulphur Springs Promotes Sustainability and Team Member Experience

January 21, 2022

The sun is strong and hot in Texas. A parked car that is exposed to sun is likely to be unbearably hot when a person goes to drive home at the end of the day. The opportunity is harnessing the sun as a renewable energy source that can be harnessed through solar energy technology.

The team at Clayton Sulphur Springs, Texas saw an opportunity to improve their team member experience and reduce their carbon footprint at the same time with a simple investment.

In 2019, Clayton Sulphur Springs installed a 200-kilowatt solar carport system. This provides shade to team members’ cars and offsets the location’s electricity usage by 30 to 40 percent.

The solar carport installation is another example of our local facilities, home centers and team members driving innovations that are improving the team member experience and utilizing sustainable building practices. When we empower our team members to drive innovation, we can build a better tomorrow for the communities where we live and work.

Since inception, Clayton Sulphur Springs has generated 75.05 megawatt-hours of electricity from the solar carport system by saving energy and positively impacting our carbon footprint.
