Clayton Receives Three 2022 Manufactured Housing Institute® Awards

Among the awards, the home builder secured the first Leadership in Sustainability Award

April 18, 2022

MARYVILLE, Tenn., April. 18, 2022 – Clayton, a national builder of off-site and site-built homes, was awarded Manufactured Housing Institute’s 2022 Manufacturer of the Year – Three Plants or More award, Retail Sales Center of the Year for the West region award, and the first-ever Leadership in Sustainability award.

Manufacturer of the Year – Three Plants or More Award: Meeting the Needs of Customers
Each of Clayton Home Building Group’s® over 15,000 team members across its 40 home building facilities, 26 supply locations and nine site builders are united around a resounding commitment to Clayton’s company values to “drive change” in our industry and “do good” in our communities while building a quality, beautiful home. Clayton Home Building Group proudly built over 60,000 homes in 2021, while growing in new ways to support customers and team members.

“We are honored to receive the Manufacturer of the Year award from the Manufactured Housing Institute,” said Keith Holdbrooks, president of Clayton Home Building Group. “We truly believe in our purpose of opening doors to a better life and strive to live out this purpose everyday through focusing on team member and customer experience, giving back to the communities in which we serve and helping the environment thrive for future generations. Ultimately, these actions lead to a beautiful, high-quality home for our homeowners.”

In 2021, the company released a series of videos called Behind the Build, which highlights the sustainability efforts put into the build process in display homes at retail locations across the country. Additionally, the company published its first lifestyle magazine Opening Doors designed to celebrate team member and customer stories while connecting the reader to the builder.

Retail Sales Center of the Year Award: California retail sales center goes above and beyond
As one of the first home centers to operate with updated electronic marketing materials, Clayton Homes of Oroville took customers on an interactive journey through HomeTouch™ technology. This allows future homeowners to see available floor plans and upgrades on a touchscreen television in the lobby. Customers experience a modern tour of homes they’re interested in, even if the homes are not on the lot.

The final feather in Clayton Homes of Oroville’s cap was their response to the 2018 fires in Paradise, California, just 15 minutes away from the sales center. Two team members lost their homes in Paradise, which is also the hometown of Home Center Manager Dustin Youngdahl. The Home Center teamed up with two nonprofit organizations to provide homes at no cost to 43 residents that lost their previous homes. It was the combination of these factors that led to the facility winning the Retail Sales Center of the Year award in the west region.

“I expect our home center will continue to help rebuild Paradise for the next 20 years,” said Youngdahl.

Leadership in Sustainability Award: Blazing a trail in sustainable off-site built housing
Clayton Home Building Group’s focus on overall quality is showcased by the company’s commitment to sustainable building practices, which led to the company receiving the Leadership in Sustainability Award. In 2021, Clayton Home Building Group welcomed its first Director of Environment and Sustainability, William Jenkins.

“From the building process to homeownership, we are excited to continue improving our opportunities to embrace sustainability,” said Jenkins. “As we look to the future, our national sustainability efforts will include improving the energy efficiency of our home building and supply facilities, setting ongoing reduction targets for waste and water, and increasing our reliance on renewable energy.”

Clayton launched a partnership in April with the Arbor Day Foundation® to plant 2.33 million trees in 2022, reinforcing the company’s commitment to sustainability in a new way.
