August 30, 2023

MARYVILLE, Tenn., August 30, 2023 — Clayton Home Building Group®, a leading national builder of single-family attainable housing, secured for the seventh consecutive year the 2023 Manufacturer of the Year – Three Plants or More award, the annual top honor given by the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI).

In 2022, Clayton Home Building Group built 62,841 homes ranging from site-built, off-site, Tiny, CrossMod® and modular housing. The MHI® Manufacturer of the Year award recognizes the company’s impact for the 50,762 off-site homes built during a year of unprecedented demand for housing.

“Clayton Home Building Group is dedicated to providing a world-class experience for team members and customers, building attainable homes using innovative and sustainable building practices, and supporting the communities in which we work and live,” said Keith Holdbrooks, CEO and executive chairman. “We’re honored to be recognized again by MHI as Manufacturer of the Year for our efforts that helped more than 50,000 families become homeowners last year.”

Clayton Home Building Group’s commitment to drive change in the home building industry and to do good in the community was reflected in the company’s innovation and sustainability efforts and focus on a world-class team member and customer experience, including:

  • The introduction of the Tempo model, a beautiful, designer-inspired attainable drywall home.

  • The tenth anniversary of TRU® Homes, which have helped more than 100,000 families since 2012 achieve the dream of homeownership with some of the most affordable off-site built homes on the market.

  • The 25th anniversary of Clayton Sulphur Springs, marked by the noteworthy achievement of the facility building its 25,000th home.

  • The installation of a state-of-the-art enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that transformed the Clayton Morristown distribution center and set the stage for ERP adoption at other Clayton facilities.

  • The impressive growth of Clayton Connect, Clayton Home Building Group’s transportation company, which achieved a 50% increase in toter capacity and a 17% increase in total supply shipments.

Underpinning these achievements is Clayton’s commitment to a world-class team member and customer experience:

  • While many companies were impacted by “the Great Resignation” in 2022, Clayton Home Building Group experienced the company’s highest team member engagement and retention rates due to results-driven, people-focused initiatives.

  • More than 6,000 team members contributed nearly 38,000 service hours through Clayton Impact, a paid time off program that supports volunteerism where Clayton team members live and work.

  • Clayton earned five-year high marks on the company’s B2B Retail Partner survey rating as “incredibly easy to do business with” and for Net Promoter® Score, a brand loyalty metric of performance and improvement.

Clayton Home Building Group also continued advancing sustainable building practices and environmental stewardship by diverting more than 49,000 tons of materials, the equivalent of over 392,000 residential-sized garbage cans, from the landfill through recycling efforts alone in 2022.
