Money raised by Clayton team members, matched by company
MARYVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 9, 2018 /PRNewswire/ - Clayton, a Berkshire Hathaway company and one of the country's largest home builders, presented a $112,543.60 donation to the American Red Cross East Tennessee Chapter.
The check was presented today during a brief presentation ceremony at Clayton Homes of Alcoa, by Clayton Homes Retail Division President Danny Warrick.
Also presenting on Clayton's behalf were Clayton Zone Retail Vice President Mark Morgan, Clayton Manufacturing Operations President Rick Boyd and Clayton Director of Philanthropy Susan Brown.
"When Hurricane Florence hit, Mark called and said 'we've got to figure out something to do to give to the people who were affected by this hurricane,'" said Warrick. "So Susan helped connect us with the Red Cross for a company-wide fundraiser. It became a large endeavor, bigger than we ever dreamed."
With the help of Clayton leadership, team members from the company's 360 retail home center, 40 home building facilities and Maryville headquarters coordinated to raise $56,271.80 throughout the month of October. The funds were raised through individual contributions and through events such as bake sales. Clayton matched the amount raised by team members.
"The recent hurricanes have impacted thousands of people and we are so grateful to Clayton for their generosity," said American Red Cross East Tennessee Chapter Executive Director Sharon Hudson. "We appreciate Clayton's support as we work to help those affected in the Southeast by providing food, shelter and care."
Hudson said the American Red Cross responds to over 64,000 disasters every year and still has 70 response vehicles stationed in the areas affected by Hurricanes Michael and Florence. So far, the Red Cross has provided victims of those disasters with 43,800 overnight stays in shelters, 270,000 relief items — including clean up kits and tools — and over 491,000 meals.
Hudson accepted the check on behalf of the Red Cross, along with Red Cross Board Chair Joe Thompson, Red Cross Regional Philanthropy Officer Lori Marsh and Red Cross Tiffany Circle Member Christy Phillips.
