It’s no surprise that one of the keys to enjoying your Clayton Built® home for a long time is taking care of it! However, people often forget to take care of one of the most important parts of the home — the roof!
Because your roof is the main barrier protecting your home from the elements, keeping it properly sealed is essential. Make sure you check the roof of your home, both inside and out, throughout the year by including it as part of your seasonal home maintenance checklist.
Check for these early signs of damage to your manufactured home’s roof such as identifying leaks and any other potential maintenance spots.
What you should look for on your manufactured home’s roof interior:
- Water leaking
- Dark spots on ceiling, which could be a sign of water damage
- Light showing through any cracks
What you should look for on your manufactured home’s roof exterior:
- Roof sagging
- Separated roof seams where parts of the roof join together
- Granule loss on your shingles, where your shingles lose their rough appearance and begin to look smooth
- Any shingles that are missing, broken or curling
- Moss or lichen build up
If your home shows evidence of any of these signs, then there’s a chance your roof may be in need of repairs. If you do not feel comfortable inspecting your roof or making any necessary repairs yourself, please contact a local professional to help you.
A great time of year to check your roof, along with performing other seasonal home maintenance tasks, is spring. The middle of March is a good time, for example, because usually the worst of the winter weather has passed and you will be able to see any damage that might have occurred.
Maintaining your home starts at the top as you work your way through your entire property. So, we put together this video to give you an overview of the all the different types of maintenance your roof could require to help you know where to start.
